Stephen Morris
Stephen Morris has had an illustrious career spanning over 30 years, as a pivotal member of Joy Division and New Order with his trademark machine-like drumming. After the death of the band’s singer, Ian Curtis, in 1980, Joy Division went on to form New Order, with the recruitment of Stephen's wife, Gillian Gilbert, to become one of the most critically acclaimed and influential bands of the eighties. The band were the flagship signing for Tony Wilson’s Factory Records, and alongside him, bought the infamous Hacienda nightclub, the centre of the acid house movement. New Order are back with their first album in ten years, which charted at Number 2 (their highest position in over 20 years) in the first week of release.
Stephen has written two memoirs, Record Play Pause (Little Brown, 2019) and Fast Forward (Little Brown, 2020). Record Play Pause hit the Sunday Times Bestseller list and both volumes were and are shortlisted for the Penderyn Music Book Prize.
